The plot takes us back to 1971 when Matin, a young man joined a jute mill in Khulna, a district of then East Pakistan. He brought his new bride Sanjida and the newlywed start to put together a happy new life. They have just registered their marriage but did not complete other rituals of a reception party. Sanjida longs to meet her new in-laws who live in a different town. Days go by and West Pakistani forces invade East Pakistan. Unrest and uncertainty spread like wildfire. Millions of Bengali people become refugees forced into a journey through unknown places and villages looking for a safe place.
