Ross, bereaved after the death of his girlfriend, Carmen, meets an eccentric groundskeeper, Albert, who reveals to him a machine that allows him to relive his memories and talk to her again. The title 'The Most Misused Word Since Love' refers to Ross's relationship to the word "Lost", and how he must learn that losing someone should not mean that he lose himself. Ross begins to lose his memories and Albert reveals his ulterior motive to erase Ross' memories of Carmen as an arguably good-willed attempt to delete Ross' past trauma so that he will feel better.
