Julia has been waiting her whole life to finish her work as a sculpture teacher, so she could focus on her own life and work. Now her time has come. She just retired. Her mother, Marina, is an elderly woman in her nineties. For the past three years, she's been living alternating months between Julia's and Juan and Esther's house, her son, and daughter-in-law. Tired of the situation, Esther eventually closes the door on her mother-in-law and decides that Marina is no longer staying at their house. Again Julia is then forced to put her dreams on hold to keep looking after her mother. Julia hires Miguel, a professional caregiver, who also becomes her confidant and only friend. Living with her mother becomes a burden she cannot take. Trapped by her circumstances, Julia tries to find a way out.
