To the North (2020)

Ken and Sho are two Japanese friends living a humdrum life, still living with their parents. Ken works an uninspiring job, seemingly content making enough money for comic books and beer. Sho doesn't even have a job; his family sees him as the child who will never amount to anything. Sho convinces Ken that they need to shake up their lives and do something out of the norm. They come up with a great idea: let's take a road trip to Northern Japan. The only problem is neither guy has a car or even a driver's license. With the help of a nosy bartender and Ken's big sister they get hooked up with both. The car turns out to be a pink VW bus lookalike with eyelashes and a tiara; the driver has all signs of being a psychopath. They set out on the road, each guy having their own, very personal reason for the journey. After one day a young woman drops into their lives and turns everything upside down. By the end of the trip all four will have re-examined their lives and chosen new paths.
