Self-taught, Hassis was an illustrator of the Southern Magazine, published by the Southern Group, made up of artists and intellectuals linked to the modernist movement. He has participated in more than 250 solo and group exhibitions, as well as art halls in Santa Catarina, Paraná, São Paulo and Rio Grande do Sul.
