The cultural and socioeconomic evolution of downtown White River Junction, Vermont, is reflected in the eyes of the patrons and the owner of an historic small diner there over the course of a single day. Once a thriving junction for New England train commerce, the small town experienced economic downturn as use of railroads declined. Now, an influx of educated middle-class folks escaping the prices of bigger cities have helped ring in a new, hip era for the community - but stalwarts like The Polka Dot Diner remain, artifacts of a town that no longer exists.
