1.5 generation Korean American son goes through identity crisis as well as depression stemmed from societal pressure and cultural oppression from his own parents, who still hold the strict values from Korea. Since in Korean culture, a lot of topics are considered 'taboo' such as mental illnesses. Thus, son cannot express that he is going through depression even to his own parents. Parents do not want to accept the fact that their own son has mental illness. Parents rather focus on pushing him to do well in school and with other things, rather than trying to hear him out what is actually going on with his life.
