Sound Mind: Same Ol' River (2021)

Set in the mid 1930's off the banks of the Mississippi River and inspired by Paul Roberson's "Ol' Man River," "Same Ol' River" depicts the everyday hardworking life of African American dock workers and housemaids. Both groups come to terms with the life of toil and not seeing the fruit of their labor. Conveyed through modern dance in this compelling musical, Russel musters up the courage to express disdain for his below average existence insulted by a puny paycheck. His courage to speak out and go against the grain is met with opposition as Bernard is content with the way things are.
