Defiant sixteen year-old theater girl, Alison Ward, plays sick to skip high school with her best friend, Claire. But Claire chickens out on the designated day to play hookie as her Dad works from home. Fighting boredom, defiant Alison, ignores her geek brother's warnings that are like catnip to her. She wanders into his laptop, clicking into the Dark Web. She ventures deeper into cyberspace until she happens upon Marianna's Web. It's what her brother described as the most dangerous place on the 'net - where hit men are hired to commit murder and human body parts are sold. Unfazed, Alison activates a link that starts a video of a man who displays photographs to the camera of tortured subjects. Ali shrugs it off as unreal until she recognizes one of the victims as woman in her community who was raped and killed. Alison emails the web admin, shaming him as "a sicko," instantly receiving messages back. Horrified, she flees her house by bicycle never to return.
