Camargue, 1947. 24 year-old biologist Luc Hoffmann bought La Tour du Valat, 1500 hectares of swamps and salt marshes at the heart of the Rhone River delta. His project: Study and protect these ecosystems, rich in biodiversity. From the beginning of the 20th century on, urban, industrial, agricultural and tourism development destroyed more than half of these wetlands.
