Recorded by ZDF in 1974, this is a filmed version of a staging of the Christa Winsloe play at the Bochum Schauspielhaus in Bochum, Germany. This is one of many filmed versions of this legendary story about a teenage girl who falls in love with her teacher at a strict girls' boarding school. The 1931 original, directed by Leontine Sagan, is recognized as the first lesbian-themed film in cinema history.
