Hawkins is a soldier who returns home from her last tour. Over the course of her first day back, she attempts to ease back into her old life, but notices how empty she left things as she went off to war. The only family memento in her home is a photo of her grandfather, a veteran, who inspired her to enlist. As the day progresses, Hawkins actively writes in a journal and is reminded of a life she could have had when she sees a couple at a coffee shop. As nighttime approaches, Hawkins experiences hand tremors and accidentally cuts her foot after dropping a glass on the floor. After dressing the wound and falling asleep, Hawkins experiences a night terror and echoes from her traumatic time during her tour surface. She awakens from her nightmare and tries to wash the horrible thoughts away, only to realize that her first day back is just the beginning of a long road to recovery.
