When people die, they never really leave you. The tears move down Harmony's face like the wax from the candle burning in the centre of the room. The funeral for her Grandmother, filled with laughter and smiling faces. Lost and unable to cope with the passing of one she loved so dearly, her father teaches her the story of the red candle, and she begins to form a connection with the culture that seemed so far apart. As a Chinese-Canadian, Harmony's ability to experience her culture was difficult, but through the red candle she learns to connect with her Chinese ancestry and celebrate the life of those who have left us.
