Effie Dwyer calls Skye her home, even if she wasn't born there. Adopted by her parents, Donalda and Gregor, 21 years previously. She's well loved by the people in her village, as she juggles a handful of jobs - classroom assistant, waitress at the local bar, The Tooth and Claw, and volunteer at the local cancer charity shop. However, Effie has been suffering from increasingly frequent migraines and surreal dreams of another girl in years gone by. Her fiancé, Lachlan Glenn, assures her that it's just wedding nerves and stress. Yet on the day of their nuptials, a terrifying earthquake breaks open a hidden ancient well in the village as a mysterious stranger arrives on the island and Effie's secrets are about to be revealed.
