Fireworks (1994)

None | UK | English | 60 min
Directed by: Paul Bryers

It's November 5th. Like every year, Guy Falkes' Night is celebrated in Lewes, a small town in the south of England. The Bread and Roses theater group arrives here to present a performance of their occasional play. This performance is basically just a way to provoke discussion and talk about democracy. Topics covered include the last days of Demosthenes, the American Revolution, and one day of the French Revolution. A fascinating essay on the rights and duties that belong to democracy. The film asks questions that should have been answered at different stages of the development of the company. This original Bryers story line is a good starting point for a more in-depth post-viewing discussion. There is enough material in it. Breathtaking photograph of Walter McGill and Dion Casey.
