Coronaphobia (2020)

R-18 (PH) | Philippines | English | 93 min
Directed by: Njel De Mesa
7

Four desperate tourists (Arrow, Rome, Paloma, and Verb), all stuck in a southeast-asian country during the global "lockdowns" in the time of Covid19, are running out of cash enough to buy them tickets to go home. With the help of disgruntled receptionist, they hatch a hasty but simple heist to rob a building near their hotel. Thinking that the building is empty due to the ongoing Community Quarantine imposed by the government, they find the resolve to go through with the plan--armed with nothing. Little did they know, there's a building custodian who has been stuck there for over six months--all alone and with a bad case of cabin fever. Fed with so much fake news, the janitor is paranoid and exceedingly afraid of human interaction. The terrified tourists quickly realize that they cannot reason with the janitor who is out to eliminate them in a game of cat-and-mouse. The film is a quirky yet chilling commentary on the dangers of fake news and how we may lose our humanity during the pandemic of Covid19.
