Three ships set sail in 1542 - the San Salvador, the La Victoria and the San Miguel. They were heading into uncharted waters, in search of a trading route to China and the Spice Islands. Led by Juan Cabrillo, this expedition marked the first European landing on what is now the west coast of the United States. 'Voyages of the San Salvador - Cabrillo's Journey' follows the expedition on a dangerous journey into the unknown. The film explores the motivation behind this incredible risk and the lasting effects European exploration has had on the native Kumeyaay people. Filmed on the Maritime Museum of San Diego's replica of the San Salvador, 'Cabrillo's Journey' brings this exciting story to life and allows viewers to experience what life was like during the Age of Exploration. Today, Cabrillo's name is everywhere in California - on schools, roads, and parks. While his expeditions never found a route to China, Cabrillo and the San Salvador play a significant role in California history - a role brought to life by 'Voyages of the San Salvador - Cabrillo's Journey.'
