After more than a hundred years as an unrivaled protagonist, the film strip is about to be forced to relinquish all its glory to the digital age. "The Last Reel", is a documentary which depicts how Sicily, the last of the Italian regions to replace the film strip, dealt with the pivotal transition from film to digital. The process is being lead through the teachings of cinema managers, owners, veteran projectionists, and technicians, all with expertise in film and the process of dismantling projectors and eliminating the now, outdated, film strip. Memories of love for the film strip, including the expert statement from the director of photography, Daniel Cipri, who recognizes the film strip, has, unlike the extremely realistic digital newcomer, the capacity of providing the audience with a genuine, fascinating illusion.
