Unraveling at her corners, an 18-year-old girl named Joey struggles to see anything beautiful after the death of her mom. Patience is weak, embarrassment no longer exists, and her comical attitude has turned callous. She lives in an emotional space only the grieved understand, a world of ugly, but amidst her college search, she meets an annoyingly awkward, self conscious, and objectively terrible therapist with chronically shaky hands: polar opposites. But he has his own complicated past. Between her sessions with her therapist, she rushes to complete a haunting claymation portfolio: her attempt to get off NYU's waitlist, despite her dad adamantly refusing to let her leave home. After Joey finds out a complicated family secret, she is able to understand her dad's perspective more, but her brash and angry temperament is now firmly rooted and the only way to let go may be to start entirely new. To move on, Joey must stop fixating on all the tragedy in the world and remember how to appreciate all the beautiful things that still exist.
