Black people are nine times more likely to face police Stop and Search than white people. Black women are twice as likely as white women, and black men are 3.3 times as likely than white men, to die from Covid-19 in the UK. Britain was the leading slaver nation, carrying 40% of all Africans transported between 1761 and 1807. What do all these facts have in common? Racism is at the root. 'Is the UK innocent?' explores the relationship between the transatlantic trade of enslaved African people between the 1600s to 1800s and racism today in the UK. Through interviews with anti-racism activists in South East London this documentary asks what the relationship is between Britain's role in the enslavement of over 12m free African people and the circumstances in which today's Black people find themselves in the UK.
