There is some discussion of violence--mostly by police officers against activists--that occurred in the struggle for civil rights, but not really seen.

Much of the documentary is about events in the 1960s and 1970s, so some smoking is seen.

A white former police officer breaks down when discussing the beating of a black activist by other officers that he did not do anything about because he was a rookie. It is a fairly intense moment.
