Halawat Alruwh (Spirit of Survival) (1990)

Police General Hemmat orders a thorough roundup of regime protesters. Hemmat then demolishes the psyche of rebellious youth, by using the dubious psychological methods of the wicked Sergeant Abbas, whom in turn obediently tortures and brainwashes detainees so that they comply with the regime's policies. Enter the most recent victim of this citizen harassment, a certain Dr Shawki, a patriot who initially resists the verbal and physical assault of Sergeant Abbas. However, like the rest of the political prisoners, Shawki gradually finds himself losing the fight against the abhorrent methods of Abbas. After Dr Shawki's release from prison, Hemmat is promoted to the post of National Security Advisor, and Brigadier Shawkat to Police General, while sergeant Abbas's condition eventually deteriorates through ongoing drug addiction and self-withdrawal, following his subsequent dismissal. In the final act, Noor (the sergeant's wife) consequently pays a visit to Hemmat to plead for restoration of her husband's retirement privileges, as well as calls on Dr. Shawki to treat her husband's drug addiction without knowing that the doctor is, in fact, one of Abbas's victims.
