In Soviet times, during the period of intensive development of Yamal, a polar station, a military unit and a lighthouse were built on the island of Vilkitsky in the Kara Sea. But after Perestroika, the island turned into a garbage dump. Environmentalists have long insisted on cleaning up. In 2020, a driver, a businessman, a medical student and a 3D animator, a brewer, a locksmith - a total of eighteen men of different professions and different ages, - arrived on the uninhabited island to manually clear its territory of tons of scrap metal left after the development of Yamal.
