'Sadak Chaap' is a satire on an urban aberration brought about by capitalism in India's financial capital - Mumbai. Even as capitalism has allowed wealth acquisition and prosperity on one hand, poverty and unemployment have capitalized on its flank on the other. This film attempts to portray this paradox. Ganesh, a young graduate in economics, arrives in Mumbai in search of a job and is frustrated by failures. His desperation drives him to contact Babu, the quintessential 'begging coordinator' of the mega-city, who argues that begging is a sincere profession that offers a ladder to prosperity. Though doubtful, extreme circumstances force Ganesh to take the 'profession' of begging, under the tutelage of Babu. Babu mentors and oversees reluctant Ganesh's foray into the begging profession, insisting that begging is a business like any other, and only the most competitive and unique survive in this 'dog eat dog' world. He encourages Ganesh to find his own USP. Ganesh listens to his mentor. Although reluctant at first, he is swept by the circumstances, succeeds in begging and begins to find his feet in the big city. However, life's reality confronts him and even as he gains in the profession he has chosen, he stands to lose his family. 'Sadak Chaap' is a tragi-comedy of a young graduate's unusual professional choice in a ruthlessly competitive urban world of Mumbai.
