A university professor unable to excel at his job settles with his family in his hometown, although his children are not happy with that. One day he meets there a Harvard professor who is crazy about the Mexican Revolution, and lets him believe that he is César Rubio, the missing hero. His story is published in The New York Times, and soon fame will appear in the form of politicians who wish to see him as the leader of their country. Rubio loses himself in his new identity, viewing it as an opportunity to renew the promise of the Revolution.
