Mr. Magarinos, the favelas' defender, was born rich, engaged the fight for social justice, died after the military dictatorship coup, was veiled in a slum and burried in shallow grave. The short film presents the story of a man who was the central character in resisting removals promoted by the government in Rio de Janeiro in the 1950s and 1960s. Magarinos founded the Union of Favela Workers and mobilized politically for the first time the poor population of Rio de Janeiro in search of social justice and urbanization for the favelas. The story of Magarinos is also the story of a disordered growth in a capital, which suffers consequences felt until today, like lack of sanitation and basic health care.
