Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 black-and-white, low-budget film Psycho gave birth to the modern psychological thriller. Instead of using the expensive production crew from his previous North by Northwest, Hitchcock used the TV crew from his budget-minded weekly television series and crafted a classic that broke standard Hollywood conventions both visually and in screenplay.
