Roadies (2016)

Last night she met her dad for the first time, and today she's running horsecock cable with Booger and Pirate Joe at the Warner Grand Theater, wondering if the bad bitch they call "Whiskey" is going to kick her ass in the parking lot after work. Meet Janis, torn from a pampered life of academic indulgence by her mom's untimely death, and thrust into the foulmouthed, nicotine-fueled backstage world of the hard-rock roadie. And to make matters worse, she's thrown on the mercy of Mike, her dad, who owns the company--"Bigger Tools"--charges her rent, and doesn't understand why you need a degree to study women. Mike also knows something Janis doesn't: her mother, Liddy, mysteriously left her entire estate, nearly $180,000, to Mike. All she left Janis was a cross-country plane ticket, and Mike's address. Janis knew her mother as the button-down real-estate agent who sold overpriced houses to white-collars in Westchester County, New York. Mike knew her as the free-spirited roadie who disappeared twenty years ago when she became pregnant, ostensibly by Mike, and raised her daughter three thousand miles away. Janis and Mike's newfound relationship is a minefield. To him, she's a self-indulgent brat who's never had to work a day in her life; to her, he's a humorless hard-ass with zero parenting skills and even less empathy. As we get to know them, however, we learn that Mike has a well-hidden sentimental streak, and Janis, despite her suburban upbringing, somehow picked up a healthy dose of street-smarts and a spine of steel. She'll need it to deal with the eccentric and unpredictable crew of wash-outs and wannabes surrounding her. But is Mike her real father? Will Janis survive among the roadies long enough to find out? Why is Booger, an introverted alcoholic stagehand roughly her mother's age, so shook up by her sudden appearance? Answers only lead to more questions as Janis learns that life doesn't always hand you a backstage pass.
