Lutsel K'e, a community of 320 Chipewyan Dene located in the pristine wilderness of Great Slave Lake, in Canada's NWT, is reachable only by air or water. By the 1980's the community had been devastated by substance abuse. In 1989 the elected Chief and Council passed an innovative resolution, the first in North America, requiring addicted council members to enter treatment. All entered treatment. The film traces the personal trials and tribulations of the 1989 Chief and Council over 25 years. At the heart of their ongoing recovery is a 250-foot waterfall in the shape of a woman. Abandoned over generations the Old Lady Sitting in the Falls has been brought back into their spiritual consciousness to assist in their healing, for the sake of future generations.
