Fourteen-year-old Yuri has a strong bond with her father Lorenzo, a border patrol guard. Lorenzo is called 'The Hunter': not only because he is good at his job, but also because he is a passionate huntsman. In winter, when the snow blurs the contours in the landscape Yuri turns fifteen. Her father Lorenzo decides that she is now old enough to carry the rifle that is passed down in the family for generations. Yuri is allowed to shoot her first deer. Lorenzo, Yuri and her uncle Ivan drive deep inland to go on a hunting trip for a few days. But Yuri's 'rite de passage', this celebration and almost ritual initiation, takes a disastrous and irrevocable turn. Lorenzo struggles to place the impact the tragedy has on their lives. Meanwhile Yuri's sense of guilt is growing. Without success, she tries to turn herself in. Lorenzo picks her up at the police station, but at a gas station on their way home, Yuri disappears without a trace. Will Lorenzo succeed in finding his daughter again?
