On February 20, 2014, in Kyiv, Ukraine special forces units opened fire on the Maidan protesters, killing over 50 people and wounding more than 200. The ensuing chaos within the ranks of law enforcement agencies combined with the protesters' fear of repression, led to official "white washing" of an already complicated crime. To date, not a single case has been brought to court. The Revolution of Dignity remains unfinished. During the mayhem, OLEKSANDR KLOCHKO (SASHKO) a biology student corners a soldier from the Interior Troops in the hallway of the October Palace steps away from sniper fire. The trooper looks just like Sashko, twenty-something, grimy and covered in soot from the burning Maidan, he is exhausted almost to death, and lost. Sashko convinces him to relinquish his weapon and takes him captive. At that moment he realizes the absurdity of the nightmare around him. The soldier becomes Sashko's metaphysical reflection from the other side of barricades. Months later Sashko, who helped carry the wounded and dead from Institutska Street begins his own quest for the trooper. The annexation of Crimea and invasion of eastern Ukraine by Russian special forces compels Sashko to search for his captive in the conflict zone known as the ATO (Anti-Terrorist Operation). There he meets IVAN BUBENCHYK, a volunteer Ukrainian warfighter and fellow Maidan activist harbouring a secret that could reignite the revolution or undermine a fragile cease-fire.
