Shortly before Sonja's wedding to Thomas, a local dairy owner, her childhood sweetheart Adrian ambushes and rapes her. Instead of going to the police, Sonja and her sister Birgit decide to do everything to sweep it under the table. Even to Thomas she is silent, gives birth to daughter Anna and suffers in silence.
