This documentary focuses on the education of the girl child in Modern India. Primary education is a fundamental right for 6-14 year olds and yet government schools are riddled with political in-fighting and corruption at every level. The focus here is on a lower caste girl in eastern Uttar Pradesh, which is the largest state in India and is unique in that it has a powerful lower caste female leader who heads the Bahujan Samaj Party. With this background in mind, we set out to discover what has changed and what has remained the same in one village call Mirdha in district Ballia. We visited primary, and middle schools and the various government offices responsible for administering government schools which incidentally educate 90 percent of the students in village India.
