Aesthetically we are somewhere between Dario Argento's 'Suspiria' and Henri-Georges Clouzot's 'Inferno'. 'Gialli are frequently associated with strong technical cinematography and stylish visuals. Critic Maitland McDonagh describes the visuals of Profondo rosso (Deep Red) as, 'vivid colors and bizarre camera angles, dizzying pans and flamboyant tracking shots, disorienting framing and composition, fetishistic close-ups of quivering eyes. In addition to the iconic images, gialli also frequently employ strongly stylized and even occasionally surreal uses of colour.' David our DOP, along with the contribution of the whole team, will be employing and embracing Giallo genre style to our scene. Heavy uses of blood red lighting, yellow (to reference Giallo pulp crime novels) shallow depth of field, abstract set design, experimental colour palette (inspired by Inferno's surrealist scenes), profound use of silhouette and innovative camera angles will all be featured in our scene. David and the team can't wait to begin collaborating with the set designers, who will have the opportunity to assist in building a set with expressive and interesting interiors to compliment the highly stylized and intensely coloured genre of Giallo. Their input with how we dress the tableaus in the studio will also be very inspiring and a fantastic cooperative experience.
