True literature lover Simon started the bookshop he always dreamed of, assisted by pragmatic partner Laura. To her puzzled frustration, he seems to lose all interest in the business shortly after a mystery visit from a man Simon avoids talking about. It's his former classmate Ronnie, who later commits suicide at a train junction. Flashbacks gradually reveal Simon's bullied trauma culminating in Simon's buddy Ralph's tragic end with complicity of school seniors, including Suriname-rooted Vincent, now a businessman, who offers to become the bookshop's silent investor.
