Machines once used, is about the ruins of an old chemical plant in England where men once mined the sea for magnesium. It's a contemporary industrial parable that uses the abandoned site of a great industrial enterprise to explore the human and environmental contradictions that lie at the heart of heavy industry. Guided by the ex workers and the video they shot, the film is an archaeological probe that makes visible the purpose of these mysterious ruins, they part they played in the great European war against Hitler.
