Molly O'Brien lives the fast-paced life of an award-winning sports journalist. Her demanding job puts a strain on her marriage, and she routinely misses the life events of her children. But a late-night phone call throws her a curve as she finds out her close childhood friend, Danny Trillo, has passed away from cancer. Molly returns to her hometown for the funeral and reflects on a magical year in her life. It was a year between youth and adulthood when she and Danny bonded over baseball, the Pittsburgh Pirates, Roberto Clemente and wide-eyed innocence with friends, family and all the things that she has been ignoring in her adult life. She reflects on those wonderful times and remembers her father's words about the importance of being good to other people. As Molly goes through dear possessions that Danny left to her, his posthumous words that echo on an old tape recorder cut very deep. With all the important people in Danny's life gathered, she delivers the eulogy at his funeral with a new sense of the importance of family and friends.
