Brenda, a widowed single mother to a troubled teenage son, displays courage in the face of fear as their small town has been shaken by an unknown serial killer who targets widows. Her fear of death being too close for comfort colors her interactions with her son, Derek, whose emotional distance from her during a time where she feels alone, is deeply disconcerting. Ironically enough, Brenda's best friend and neighbor, Jewels, is also a widow and mother to a seemingly perfect teen role model, Frankie. As children Derek and Frankie were best friends but as teenagers they travel in different social circles. Brenda assumes they simply grew apart but Jewels knows better as she keeps a deep, dark secret about her "Perfect" son, Frankie, that only surfaces after an accident that leaves Frankie with AMNESIA. Brenda and Jewels' inner thoughts about who this killer may be and frustration over not being able to reach their sons, compounds two tones of fear that drive their desperate behavior. Brenda loves her son but also recognizes a darkness within him and her responsibility as a mother to intervene. Jewels believes in Frankie's ability to overcome his "demons" and hopes her faith hasn't been misplaced, but worries she's wrong. Torn by the suspicion of what they may have become and the pride to "fix them," both Brenda and Jewels know it's up to them to find and choose the greater good, even if it breaks their hearts or exposes their sons most sinister deeds.
