A young man feels convicted he must join the Latvian Army just before WW2 erupts. As the Two major European aggressors cave the entire world into a bloody collapse for the next Six years, young Voldemars' will question everything about his life and all life. He will meet Millija, marry her innocence and give birth to Andris Apse, today a world renowned Scenery Photographer based in New Zealand. Based on the true story 'Andris, Where Are You?' and written by Ron Crosby a highly respected New Zealand cultural legal expert, Kurzeme Fortress - The Past is a Foreign Land is Kelly Hetherington's Director's and Writer's debut. Including research and development, this short film took Five years to complete. The feature is currently in development and looking to be shot across at least Three Countries, Latvia, New Zealand and Australia. Kelly is the surviving Grandson of Millija, residing in Brisbane, Australia. Although the new Director could not speak Latvian, he decided to have the film recorded in English and Latvian. He felt it was more powerful in Latvian with English subtitles. The film is hoped to promote genuine relations between nations. Currently it aims to be in Cannes 2017 if selected, and other festivals.
