The Periscope

A man isolated on a submarine. A war survivor whose connection to the world is done through a periscope: instrument for observation at a distance, the mechanical eye of voyeurism. The film is the story of the last episodes observed by this man in a fishing community 'in the tropics". While he narrates the story of the arrival of a body on the beach, he returns to his war traumas and his childhood rediscovering memories that he thought he had forgotten. Winner of the regional contest of film script, The Periscope is a medium-length film shot with the RED ONE/SCARLET camera between november 2011 and september 2015, in the Brazilian northeastern coast. The film is an allegory about loneliness and mediated human relationships, written and directed by Marcelo Costa. The Periscope is his first fiction movie.
