A pocket of New York City is flooded with the most human-like droids ever built. Created by brilliant robotics-engineer Anton, they are near-perfect replicas. Anton cracked the lag between hardware and software, making he and his wife rich, but damaging their relationship and driving her to leave him. His attempt to build a perfect replica of his wife ricochets off his fleet of computerized doppelgängers, bringing out the monster in the humans his early efforts were based on.
