"On its surface, it's a film about the making of a film, but the backdrop is flooded with one of Portland's most pressing social issues." -KGW-TV The Lost Boys of Portlandia is the result of a three week filmmaking workshop with homeless youth. The iconic story of Peter Pan is a catalyst for exploring the relationship of children and parents, coming of age, and the ethics of rebellion, resistance and acquiescence in the formation of self from the point of view of youth who live on the streets. They debate if and how to return to mainstream society, while showing they are clearly able to do so, when given an opportunity. The film offers insight into the creative process and experiences of homeless youth while showcasing their complex humanity, beyond the usual stereotypes. The film also showcases a successful educational model that is a therapeutic intervention, a job training program, and a way to hear directly from the youth about what they need.
