In the early 1800's frontier, an escaped convict is tracked and non-fatally shot by a Pinkerton. Against his orders to return the prisoner to the law, the Pinkerton has created a slow and sadistic scenario in which his captive must bury three bodies, all of whose identities are concealed. As the night goes on, the graves are dug, the prisoners begins to suspect he may know the bodies. The Pinkerton, becoming more overtly twisted, alludes to the fact that the bodies may be family. Once the prisoner deduces that they're most likely his wife and 2 daughters, his world begins to crumble. His inevitable death draws near and in a moment of elation, he accepts his fate and denounces what his life was worth due to the monstrous acts he has committed in his time. All he asks is the identities of the three bodies be known to him. The Pinkerton denies him the liberty. The bodies are buried. The Pinkerton hangs the man from a tree and rides off.
