In THE ASPHALT DIAMOND, a failed MLB baseball player Joe Robinson becomes a soured police detective of 20 years in Philadelphia. At 2 a.m. while driving alone, he is confronted by a gang playing stick ball. Through a series of events, Joe Robinson forms a baseball team on a challenge by a judge to "rehabilitate" rival gangs in urban Philly. Under Joe Robinson's Marine DI approach, the gang rival members turn an asphalt parking lot, which has become a local dump site, into a baseball diamond. It is here on THE ASPHALT DIAMOND where Joe teaches the young men baseball, makes them tough disciplined athletes, gets then jobs, enroll;s them in a local college courses. Joe and his team struggles daily against a corrupt DA. The team goes on to win a national NCAA baseball championship title.
