The bar is closing down. John, a seasoned club singer prepares for his final performance with his trademark cheerfulness. His wife can't bring herself to attend, John doesn't understand why. Kenny, his best friend and owner of the bar, wouldn't dare miss it for the world. It is John who walks forward as he is introduced, but it is Jay Costello who takes the stage one last time.
