An old ventriloquist (Greg Joseph) has just given one of the most depressing performances of his life when he is informed by a young boy working as a stagehand (Zander Nolte), the nephew of the theater owner, that he is about to be fired and evicted from the dressing room he also calls home. At first, the ventriloquist snaps at the boy because he has brought the worst possible news, but then learns that they have more in common than he realizes. The two become friends as an unlikely resolution offers the boy hope and the old man a deeper understanding of people and what comprises true success.
