Liu Yang He is not only a landmark river in China but also a well-known Communist folk song. It was written during the Agrarian Reform that precedes the Cultural Revolution. Youngsters were sent to farmlands and factories to experience intense labour. They sang to praise Chairman Mao. Kah was a sent-down youth who joined the revolution but was permanently injured in an industrial accident. She was then married to Hong Kong and later became a sex worker. One day she met this amputated client, whose family escaped from the revolution when he was young. They felt sympathy with each other and turned this sympathy into a possibility of love.
