This is the story of William Matter Jr., a forlorn and fire-breathing oil lamp heir, who meets his new housemaid Eliza Alcotti on the eve of his dreaded engagement announcement. Eliza's manners aren't the best, but then neither are William's. What matters is that both find in each other the ability to change. This is Matter and Manner.
