NASA scientist Irwin Shpeltzer is on the cusp of completing a four year mission requiring him to journey to the distant planet of Penoa and bring back dust from its ring which scientists speculate is capable of resorting Earth's ozone layer. While it may seem like the endless calculations, physical strain, and seclusion that go into managing a one-man spacecraft traveling through hyperspace would be the biggest challenges Irwin is facing, all of that pales in comparison to being stuck with his ship's on-board computer, 'DOS Operated User Companion Hardware (Enterprise edition)' or D.O.U.C.H.E. for short.
