Edsel's Place

Young Teresa Dyer has one overriding qualification to be an archaeologist: her father is first-class pack-rat. Three weeks before graduation from high school in Krum, Texas, Teresa discovers her long-time boyfriend, Kerry has been secretly keeping the company of an attractive young cheerleader. She invites him to her home where she and her best friend, Isabella Shapiro confront him about the affair. During the confrontation, principal Homer Hall knocks on Teresa's door. He is there to advise her mother, Dorothy that she has been laid off from her teaching job at Krum High School due to cutbacks. He overhears Teresa telling Kerry she's pregnant. When Teresa answers the door, principal Hall informs her that she is expelled from school for being pregnant. Teresa explains to him that she really ISN'T pregnant but is of no difference to principal Hall. To make matters worse, her father, Johnny Dyer comes home to find Teresa and Carolyn talking in the living room. He's been fired from his construction job for running an illegal college football betting pool. He realizes something is wrong so he goes to his haven, the garage to let Carolyn and Teresa talk things out. Johnny's best friend, Tony Shapiro, comes over to borrow the lawn mower. Johnny reveals to him the days events. Tony invites him to go check something out. Ever the schemer, Tony takes Johnny to an abandoned diner on the wrong side of town. Normally, Johnny is leery of Tony's schemes but there is something different about this. Something that will change all their lives and the lives of people in their home town.
